Today, I want to introduce two lesson plans that I did this month. The theme I chose this month was colours and emotion. I felt that it was important to introduce the freedom and individualistic aspects of music first before we went into the techniques so that the children weren't overwhelmed with new material.

Music notes lesson:

We first started off the day with a little introductory youtube video on music.

Then we introduced ourselves within the group and I asked them to write two songs or aspects of music they were interested in learning.

Then, as a class, we went over each music note on the sheet music and coloured them in with their identified colours.

I tried my best to keep all the students on the same note so that they would advance at the same speed, but it wasn't really successful. We then identified the two ways in which we can group the notes and memorize them.

"Every Good Boy Does Fine" (EGBDF) and "FACE."

We then coloured coded that and made sure that everyone wrote it down on their paper. I then went over to each student as they were finished to help them learn how to draw the treble clef. ( I remembered it being one of the most interesting parts of a music lesson so I incorporated it)

And because they were so eager to play it on the piano, for the last 15 minutes, I moved on from my structured lesson plan and taught the children to recognise each group on the piano.

Compared to the pros and cons list I made last month, I think the pros really outnumbered the cons when I actually taught it to the children at Hope 7.

It was revels week this whole week, so I didn't have the opportunity to go to hope 7 to teach my music classes. I'm really glad how my lessons went last week and hope to keep it up once we get back from winter break; the first week of January.

Something I realized recently, after teaching my classes last week, was that I definitely should be teaching different material for the younger group 2 and older group 3. I taught at school 16 for about three months now, but because I only taught 4rth graders, I somehow just assumed that the learning gap between the 1st graders and 4rth graders wouldn't be that big. But, after teaching both groups, Tuesday and Thursday, I've seen with my own eyes the big gap that exists between the age groups. So from next year, I will be changing my plan to create two different lessons plans for the two age groups.
